GEORGIA Ports Authority (GPA) says the port of Savannah can get Indian cargo to moving markets up to eight days faster, reports London's Port Technology International.
These inland markets include West Coast ports, such as Atlanta, Chicago, and Dallas.
Six weekly vessel routes provide direct links between Savannah and India, while 10 services connect Savannah to the Indian Subcontinent.
GPA revealed that 12 ocean carriers operate the Savannah-Indian Subcontinent route, with ocean transit periods as short as 29 days.
Direct port links include Hazira, Mumbai/Nhava Sheva, Mundra, and Pipavav. Additional calls in the region include Colombo, Sri Lanka, and Port Qasim, Pakistan.
The Port of Savannah's rail speed enables GPA's 1-2-3 Strategy, allowing for third-day cargo availability in many interior markets. The strategy reportedly involves offloading from a vessel, railing, and arriving at the destination.
In December 2024, GPA outlined plans to improve operational sustainability for neighbouring communities in Savannah and Brunswick as the driver of three federal grants totalling more than US$120 million.
