THE Suez Canal Authority has announced a new vessel transit record was set Wednesday September 29 when 87 vessels totalling 4.8 million tons transited the waterway.
The number. of southbound vessels was 38 and the total net tonnage of cargo they had onboard is two million tons. While 49 vessels were northbound, using the New Suez Canal, at a total cargo net tonnage of 2.8 million tons.
Suez Canal Authority chairman Ossama Rabiee confirmed the waterway's readiness to handle all various changes in the global maritime trade after the increase in the numerical and accommodation capacity of the canal thanks to the New Suez Canal completion.
