LUFTHANSA Cargo has added another new Boeing 777 freighter as it continues to modernize its cargo fleet and expand capacity, reports London's Air Cargo News.
The German airline took delivery of its 18th B777 freighter at Frankfurt Airport (FRA), its main hub, on August 17. The long-haul freighter was transferred directly from Boeing's Everett production facility in Washington, US.
lufthansa Cargo now operates a 777F fleet of twelve of its own aircraft on long-haul routes. In addition, six 777 freighters are operated by AeroLogic, a joint venture between DHL and Lufthansa Cargo.
Ashwin Bhat, chief executive of Lufthansa Cargo, said: 'This will allow us to provide our customers with additional capacity, continue to grow in the air freight market and enable global business.
'This means that we can align our network even more closely with our customers' needs and also offer solutions to market changes at short notice. In addition, the B777F remains the most efficient and modern freighter in its class. Our latest aircraft is therefore another important investment in our modern long-haul fleet and contributing in making air cargo more sustainable.'
The newest freighter in the Lufthansa Cargo fleet has been given the name 'Hola Argentina' as per the airline's 'Say hello around the world' naming convention.
The carrier has recently added 777F flights to the Mexican city of Monterrey (MTY) via Mexico City (NLU), as well as to Shenzhen Boa'an International Airport (SZX) and Zhengzhou (CGO) as it looks to capitalise on e-commerce demand growth from China.
Lufthansa Cargo's global network is supplemented by four Airbus A321 freighters operating on short and medium-haul routes. As well as operating to and from Frankfurt, as of last month the freighters now fly from Munich (MUC) to Istanbul twice a week.
In addition, Lufthansa Cargo utilizes the belly capacities of Lufthansa, Discover, Brussels, Austrian Airlines and SunExpress.
