INDIA's VO Chidambaranar Port in Tamil Nadu, 375 miles south of Chennai, handled 34.12 million tonnes of cargo during the financial year 2021-22
V O Chidambaranar Port Authority chairman TK Ramachandran, said that the port has surpassed its pre-pandemic cargo volumes, given the positive trend driven by economic recovery.
Presenting the performance of the port during the financial year 2021-22, he said that they had handled cargo traffic of 34.12 million tonnes, against 31.79 million tonnes in the previous year, registering a growth of 7.33 per cent, reports The Hindu daily.
On imports, he said that they accounted for 24.19 million tonnes, exports 9.45 million tonnes and transshipment 480,000 tonnes.
The port had handled 7.81 million TEU in 2021-22, registering an increase of 2.49 per cent over previous year's container traffic of 7.62 million TEU.
The port witnessed an improved performance in terms of operational efficiency, Mr Ramachandran said and added that the average pre-berthing detention time had decreased considerably from 13.44 hours to 11.52 hrs.
