DELO Group plans to expand its shipping fleet severalfold, said company chairman Sergei Shishkarev on the sidelines of the recent International Arctic Forum in Murmansk reports Interfax.
He said the company is considering buying containerships with capacity of 2,000 to 10,000 TEU and bulk carriers with capacity of 20,000 to 100,000 tonnes.
'We will buy second hand, but in good condition, with good reliability, compliant with all standards of navigation in both Russian territorial waters and in international waters,' Mr Shishkarev said.
'Now is a good time, because one needs to make money and generally develop not when [charter] rates are high, but when they're low, when there's a crisis,' he said.
'Right now charter rates have fallen sharply compared to where they were two years ago, even one year ago, so a lot of vessels will be available now, if not cheaply then at least not at such high prices,' Mr Shishkarev said.
delo Group operates nine marine terminals and 45 inland terminals, with a total marine terminal capacity of 3.9 million TEU and 10.5 million tonnes of grain per year.
Delo Group also owns 41,000 container flatcars and containers with a total capacity of 230,000 TEU, along with its own vessels. It has several subsidiaries, including DeloPorts, Global Ports, TransContainer, Ruscon, and DeloTech, which handle various aspects of logistics and digitalization.
