THE international aviation market in Vietnam has fully recovered, slightly exceeding pre-Covid crisis levels, according to Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CV) director Dinh Viet Thang, reports Vietnam News Agency.
At the Ministry of Transport's mid-year conference on July 3, Mr Thang reported a three per cent market growth compared to 2019.
Vietnamese airlines hold a 44 per cent market share in international passenger traffic, with an average seat utilisation rate of over 77 per cent.
For the 2024 summer schedule, 63 foreign and four Vietnamese carriers have restored their international routes.
They are also expanding into new markets in Central Asia, India, and Australia.
The Republic of Korea remains the most important market, with 5.3 million passengers in the first half, followed by China with 2.5 million passengers.
The CV aims to transport 78.3 million passengers, including 43.5 million foreigners, and 1.21 million tonnes of cargo in 2024, marking increases of 7.7 per cent and 13.4 per cent year-on-year, respectively.
However, airlines face challenges due to a shortage of operational aircraft, with Vietnam Airlines temporarily grounding several planes due to engine issues.
