THE Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, in partnership with Realterm and WFS, has opened a US$270 million cargo hub at JFK Airport, reports Mumbai's Stat Trade Times.
The facility, located in JFK's north cargo area, will streamline operations by consolidating four cargo zones, reduce truck congestion, and support growth in high-value cargo sectors.
Operated by WFS, the new 350,000-square-foot facility marks the first new cargo facility at JFK in 25 years. The cargo centre is part of the Port Authority's larger redevelopment initiative.
The new facility aims to enhance efficiency and support industries handling high-value goods, including pharmaceuticals, perishables, and electronics.
Said port authority chairman Kevin O'Toole: 'We are in the midst of historic overhauls across all of our airports, and this new cargo centre is yet more proof of the transformation that is underway.'
Said port authority executive director Rick Cotton: 'By replacing outdated facilities with a modern cargo centre, we're preparing for the future and improving efficiency and sustainability.'
