CEBU Pacific emerged as the leading domestic carrier in terms of air cargo volume during the first quarter of 2023, according to recent data from the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB), reports Manila's Port Calls.
Overall, Philippine domestic carriers experienced a 10 per cent increase in air cargo handling compared to the previous year.
Out of the eight local carriers included in the report, five achieved significant year-on-year growth, with some even reaching double and triple-digit percentages.
Cebu Pacific claimed the largest share, accounting for 37 per cent of the total volume with 21.773 million kilograms, marking a 16.7 per cent increase from the same quarter in the previous year.
PAL Express secured the second spot, with a 27.4 per cent share of the total volume amounting to 16.169 million kilogrammes.
Their performance demonstrated an impressive growth rate of 122.6 per cent compared to the corresponding period last year.
Philippine Airlines held an 18.8 per cent share but experienced a decline of 43.5 per cent in throughput, handling 11.105 million kilogrammes compared to 19.667 million kilogrammes in the previous year.
AirAsia Philippines ranked fourth, representing a 12.8 per cent share or 7.564 million kilogrammes, showing a substantial improvement of 42.3 per cent compared to the previous figure of 5.316 million kilogrammes.
AirSwift Transport Inc, a boutique airline, experienced remarkable growth, with a surge of 591.8 per cent to reach 1.131 million kilogrammes, up from 163,494 kilogrammes in the previous year.
Seair International Inc, a leisure airline, reported a decrease of 30.9 per cent with 560,771 kilogrammes, compared to 811,443 kilogrammes previously.
Cebgo faced the largest decline, handling only 401,628 kilogrammes, reflecting a significant drop of 70.6 per cent compared to the previous year's figure of 1.366 million kilogrammes.
Lastly, Island Aviation Corp, a charter airline, witnessed a substantial increase of 80 per cent in air cargo handling, with 305,805 kilogrammes in the first quarter of 2023, compared to 169,433 kilogrammes during the same period last year.
