HYUNDAI Merchant Marine (HMM) plans to try out Internet of Things (IoT) technology on the shipping of refrigerated and frozen containers, reports Jacksonville's Container News.
IoT allows ship operators to determine the location and changes of temperature, carbon emissions, humidity, and vibration of reefers in real-time.
'It's crucial for refrigerated and frozen containers to maintain a constant temperature to their destination. If IoT equipment is installed in refrigerated and frozen containers, not only can the location of cargo be identified in real-time, but real-time information such as changes in temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide, and vibration of reefers loaded on ships can be checked and controlled from anywhere.' said HMM.
