ACCORDING to the freight benchmarking platform Xeneta, Bangladesh recorded the highest air freight rate increase globally in 2024 across all air corridors, reports New York's Sourcing Journal.
In the week ending August 25, air cargo spot rates from Bangladesh surged 163 per cent year on year, marking one of the fastest growth rates ever observed and reaching their highest point in over two-and-a-half years.
Spot rates to North America jumped 127 per cent, reaching US$6.91 per kg, while European rates spiked 151 per cent to $4.77 per kg.
Air freight rates have been climbing steadily throughout 2024.
As of July 24, global rates were up ten per cent year-on-year, according to Amsterdam's WorldACD.
Aligning with Xeneta's data, the highest increases came from the Middle East and South Asia (MESA) region, where rates rose 51 per cent per kilogram.
