THE visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) created two new records in the month of May by handling the highest number of containers ever recorded in a month in its container terminal, surpassing the previous records, reported the Times of India.
Visakha Container Terminal operator of Vizag Port, equidistant from Calcutta and Madras, handled a record throughput of 61,468 TEU in the month of May 2023, which is the highest TEU record in a month surpassing the previous best of 56,578 TEU in March 2023.
The length of the Container Terminal is 390 metres long and 42 metres wide, with 16 metres alongside.
VCTPL also achieved another record by handling 49 vessels in the same month of May, which is the highest number of vessels handled record in a month surpassing 42 vessels handled in April 2023.
VPA chairman M Angamuthu praised the officials and the Terminal Operator in achieving the new record. He also advised the port employees to do teamwork to scale new records.
