SOUTH Korea's Ministry of Small, Medium and Enterprises and Start-ups are working with domestic carrier HMM and Korea Post to provide multimodal logistical support for small and mid-sized enterprises to the midwest and the eastern US cities, reports London's Loadstar.
HMM will ship the goods from Gwangyang to Long Beach, where the containers will be trucked to Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta, and Little Ferry, using Korea Post's network.
Severe congestion in the US west coast ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach have seen 70 vessels wait as long as nine days for a berth, which could take two weeks for a ship to be unloaded.
The multimodal arrangement is expected to help Korean exporters get their goods to the midwest and eastern US cities in time for Black Friday.
The Korean government has been active in providing logistical support for local shippers dealing with tight shipping and equipment capacity.
