The first stage of righting of the 'Seikongen', which was submerged since Oct 18, 2017, in the bay of Pilpilehue, in the commune of Chonchi, Los Lagos Region, was concluded. The successful operation began in the morning of July 12 and managed to get the ship on even keel under water. More than 100 people participated in the work which was carried out in charge of the Dutch salvage company Ardent and under the supervision of the Navy. Taking advantage of the condition of the tides, three pullers, each arranged to lift 200 tons, managed to straighten the wreck, which still contained about 1000 cubic meters of decomposed salmon, which were trapped when the ship sank. The salvors hoped that in 10 or 12 more days the removal of the wreck can be started, so that in 20 days it may arrive in Talcahuano. During the next few hours, the condition of the vessel's hull will be checked and gases will be measured. Spanish report with photos: https://www.cooperativa.c...
