BRAZILIAN port operator santos Brasil handled 337,183 TEU across its various facilities in the second quarter of the year, representing growth of 31 per cent as the nation's import and export volumes rose.
The company's largest terminal Tecon Santos grew its market share to 40 per cent, making it the second busiest terminal in the Port of Santos, Brazil's largest container port.
The facility in Santos handled 296,095 TEU, representing 34 per cent growth, while Tecon Vila do Conde handled 28,934 TEU and Tecon Imbituba handled 12,154 TEU.
The increase in throughput helped boost the company's financial results with net income reaching BRL60 million (US$11.3 million) reversing a loss of BRL9 million in the same quarter last year.
Revenue totalled BRL$380 million driven by the strong performance of the operator's terminal in Santos, while EBITDA reached BRL148 million, constituting a 250 per cent jump and marking Santos Brasil's highest EBITDA level since 2013, according to UK's Container Management.
