SANKO Steamship - one of the most famous names in Japanese shipowning history - is readying to cease operations and has put its last ship up for sale.
The company is selling the 2021-built, 82,514 dwt sanko Hawking bulk carrier with top management telling the Japan Maritime Daily that the company will then exit shipowning, according to Singapore's Splash 247.
Sanko, founded in 1934, was the biggest shipping casualty of the 1980s. It went bankrupt again in 2012 at a time when it controlled a fleet of around 185 vessels with its owned ships tending to sport green-coloured hulls. The company emerged from a reorganization under court protection in December 2014.
