TRANSCONTAINER, a leading intermodal container company in Russia, saw cargo volumes rise in the first quarter 7.7 per cent year on year to 492,000 TEU, driven by import growth.

Container volumes moved by the company's flatcar fleet in the first quarter rose by 12.7 per cent year on year to 467,000 TEU with the expansion of fleet capacity, reported St Petersburg's PortNews.

Container volumes transported by the company's assets in the first quarter of 2019 grew by 10.6 per cent year on year to 481,000 TEU.

Starting from this reporting quarter, the company considers a combination of container volumes transported by its own flatcars and those by third-party flatcars, which run under the company's management, as the top indicator for ascertaining the company's transportation volume and the company's market share.

TransContainer is the No 1 intermodal container transportation firm in Russia with a market share of 42 per cent. It is the market leader in Russia by flatcar fleet size, container transportation by rail and rail-side container terminal throughput. As of the end of last year, it owned and leased 26,457 flatcars and 70,478 ISO containers.
