QATAR saw an eight per cent year-over-year growth in the number of ship calls on their ports of Hamad, Doha and Al Ruwais, reports Doha's Gulf Times.
The number of ships calling on Qatar's three ports stood at 298 in July 2021, 7.97 per cent higher year on year. However, the numbers were down one per cent on a monthly basis.
Building materials handled totalled 34,929 tonnes in July, surging 26.85 per cent on the year and 8.67 per cent on a monthly basis.
A total of 364,528 tonnes of building materials had been handled by the three ports during the first seven months of 2021.
The ports handled 5,519 vehicles in July 2021, an increase of 59.09 per cent year on year but a 6.88 per cent decrease on a monthly basis. The ports handled 45,005 vehicles from January to July this year.
The ports handled 37,126 livestock in July, showing a 28.11 per cent expansion on a yearly basis. The ports also handled 206,765 heads during the first seven months of 2021.
The ports container handling stood at 121,379 TEU, dropping 1.44 per cent year on year and 7.21 per cent month on month in July 2021. The container handling was 940,632 TEU from January to July 2021.
The Hamad Port saw 118,196 TEU in July 2021. General cargo stood at 64,888 tonnes in July 2021 for the three ports, a decrease of 48.41 per cent on a yearly basis and 63.22 per cent on a monthly basis.
On a cumulative basis, the general cargo movement totalled 942,961 tonnes from January to July this year in the three ports.
'Hamad Port's second container terminal is designed to address the increasing trade volume, enhancing ease of doing business in qatar as well as supporting the achievement of economic diversification, which is one of the important goals of Qatar National Vision 2030,' said Mwani Qatar.
