THE port of New York and New Jersey reported a 13.5 per cent increase in total volume for June, handling 708,935 TEU (395,219 containers), reports London's Port Technology.
This brings the year-to-date total to 4.2 million TEU (2.3 million containers).
June marked the port's fourth consecutive month exceeding 700,000 TEU and its seventh straight month of year-on-year growth.
The port retained its position as the nation's second busiest for loaded cargo during the first half of the year.
Imports in June rose 12.1 per cent compared to the same period last year, totalling 366,099 TEU (203,555 containers) and 326,681 TEU (181,496 containers).
From January through June 2024, imported loads reached 2,158,055 TEU (1,199,783 containers), a 13.7 per cent increase compared to the 1,897,496 TEU (1,056,540 containers) handled during the same period in 2023.
