THE port of Los Angeles handled 801,398 TEU in February, a 2.5 per cent increase from last year, making it the second-busiest February on record.
February 2025 loaded imports totalled 413,236 TEU at the port, a 1 per cent increase over the previous year, while loaded exports totalled 109,156 TEU, down 18 per cent from 2024.
Empty cargo totalled 279,006, a 16 per cent increase over the previous year, writes London's Port Technology International.
Two months into 2025, the port has handled 1.72 million TEU, a 5.4 per cent increase over 2024.
Port of Los Angeles executive director Gene Seroka commented on the achievement: 'For 17 of the last 19 months, the port has experienced year-over-year cargo growth, all without ship delays or back-ups on our docks.
'Given the substantial inventory already here, and the uncertainty of tariffs, it's possible we could see a 10 per cent volume decline in the second half of the year. We will continue to look for new opportunities to bring more business through our gateway.'
The port recently named Stephanie Magnien Rockwell as its new chief of staff to the executive director.
