THE Seventh Container Terminal boasts the country's largest container wharves, with a combined length of 2,415 metres, capable of accommodating four 24,000-TEUers, reports St Petersburg PortNews.
The terminal will be equipped with remotely controlled 25-container-outreach ship-to-shore cranes, fully automated driverless transtainers, and smart gate controls in both quay and inland operations areas.
The terminal-wide automation and smart operations will be supported by standalone-5G, fibre-optic and Internet of Things (IoT) systems coverage, Evergreen Marine's fully automated terminal operating system (TOS), and a real-time power monitoring system.
These advanced features will ensure that the 7th Container Terminal plays a crucial role in global and regional shipping.
During the Covid crisis, the shortage of available labour and unplanned port lockdowns resulted in shipping delays, port congestion and container handling mistakes.
Although major shipping companies had transitioned to digital platforms, most ports still lacked the necessary infrastructure to effectively utilise digital data.
As a result, labour-intensive port operations became a significant obstacle to global shipping operations. TIPC and Evergreen Marine allocated TWD40.95 billion (US$1.32 billion) to create the first fully automated container yard in Taiwan in less than five years, delivering world-class, state-of-the-art port operations.
