THE port of Gothenburg container volumes are up six per cent to 655,000 TEU in the first half, while freight volumes continue to increase in all segments except one, reports St Petersburg PortNews.
The port is increasing its market share in Sweden in all segments with 53 per cent of the Swedish container market, which is three points up compared with the first half of 2021.
Most of the port's container volumes are handled by terminal operator APM Terminals.
The volume of container freight transported by rail increased by 13 per cent to 385,000 TEU.
Its increase is in long-distance and short-distance traffic, although the most significant increase was long-distance traffic to and from Northern Sweden.
During the first nine months, the Intra-European ro-ro traffic volume increased two per cent to 426,000 units.
The handling of energy products increased 11 per cent during the January-September compared with the same period last year.
A total of 284,000 tonnes of dry bulk were handled, representing an increase of 56 per cent.
Travel activities took off during the summer months. Up to and including September, the port welcomed 68 cruise ships, representing an all-time high for the port.
