PORT Houston's container volumes surged 20 per cent in August 2024, reaching 367,653 TEU. Total volumes for the year hit 2.79 million TEU - an 11 per cent increase compared to 2023, reports New York's Maritime Logistics Professional.
This strong performance puts the port on track for another record-breaking year.
To meet growing demand, the port recently added three new ship-to-shore cranes at the Bayport Container Terminal, bringing its total to 18 cranes.
The port's growth is driven by import and export demand, with exports up 19 per cent in August and resin exports leading the charge.
Year-to-date, total loaded container volumes have increased 10 per cent.
