GRIMALDI INCLUDES PATRAS CALL TO TRIESTE-AMBARLI RO-RO LINEGrimaldi Group’s extensive Motorways of the Sea service continues to expand with the addition of Patras to its ro-ro line operating between Italy, Greece and Turkey.
grimaldi Group, which has been represented by Egekont operating under the umbrella of Arkas since 1996, is developing the Trieste-Ambarli ro-ro line, which it launched last month. Operating on the Italy-Greece-Turkey rotation, the ro-ro line will not only establish a direct connection between the three countries with an intermediate call at the port of Patras, but will also make connections between these countries and Italy wider and more efficient. The new Trieste-Patras-Ambarli service will be fully operational as of October 23 and will be operated by sister ships Eco Mediterranea and Eco Malta. The hybrid ro-ro vessels, each capable of carrying more than 500 trailers, are among the world’s most environmentally friendly vessels, halving CO2 emissions per load compared to previous-generation ro-ro vessels, and have the capacity to reduce emissions to zero during port stays. Two weekly services from three portsThe Trieste-Patras-Ambarlı route provides a new direct connection between Greece and Turkey, and represents a significant innovation in the group’s Motorways of the Sea service in the Mediterranean. The Venice-Bari-Patras service, which operates three times a week via Greece, will facilitate ro-ro freight transport in Turkey by operating via the Ports of the Apulia Region in Southern Italy. Venice will also serve as another gateway for ro-ro freight transported via the same transfer method between Northern Italy and Türkiye.
For the Italian Group’s customers, the two sides of the Adriatic will be even closer: four eco-class ships will operate five weekly sailings between Northern Italy (Venice, Trieste) and Greece (Patras), on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays in both directions.“The new Trieste-Patras-Ambarlı route is another demonstration of the great potential of our group’s “Motorways of the Sea” network. With the addition of Patras, the service is broadened, while the reach, frequency and efficiency of our connections are also increased. We continue our commitment to more efficient maritime transport that benefits our customers and promotes sustainability. In this context, the third sister ship of the Eco Mediterranean and Eco Malta, recently built at the Jinling shipyards in China, will be commissioned for use on this route, and we will add a fourth eco-class ship to our service,” said Emanuele Grimaldi, Grimaldi Group General Manager. The Grimaldi Group is a Naples-based group that operates more than 130 ships and employs around 20,000 people. The Grimaldi family owns it entirely, and it is a multinational logistics group specialising in ro-ro ships, car transport and ferries. It is made up of seven shipping companies: Grimaldi Deep Sea, for roll cargo and container transport; Grimaldi Euromed, for ro-ro freight in Europe and passenger transport in the Mediterranean; Atlantic Container Line, for container and roll cargo between North America and Northern Europe; Malta Motorways of the Sea, for vessels connecting Malta with the main ports in the Mediterranean; Minoan Lines, for freight and passenger transport to the Greek islands; Finnlines, for freight and passenger transport in the North and Baltic Seas; and Trasmed GLE, for freight and passenger transport between mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands. Sea connections are at the heart of a well-developed logistics chain, which includes port terminals and road transport companies. More than 20 ports and terminals owned/operated by the Grimaldi Group are located in 13 countries worldwide: Italy, Spain, Greece, Germany, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Ireland, Belgium, Egypt, Cameroon, Nigeria, Benin. Most of these terminals are equipped with Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) facilities, warehouses and workshops
