THE government plans to meet with aviation companies in Canada to explore potential expansion opportunities in the Philippines, as local airlines seek to strengthen their maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capabilities, reports Manila Bulletin.
Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Cristina Roque said the discussions will focus on her official visit to Canada next month.
Roque noted that low-cost carriers Cebu Pacific and AirAsia are looking to expand into MRO services.
They aim to provide aircraft repair and maintenance for both local and international airlines to diversify their revenue streams.
The government supports this initiative as part of its broader efforts to attract more foreign investment into the country.
Roque also emphasized that the push for MRO expansion aligns with the growing number of foreign airlines increasing flights to Manila and other Philippine destinations.
