PHILIPPINES air cargo traffic handled by local airlines surged 20 per cent in the first nine months of 2023, reports Manila's PortCalls.

Cebu Pacific maintained the highest share (37.6 per cent) of the total domestic air cargo traffic, moving 63.009 million kg. This is an 11.3 per cent increase from the 56.616 million kg handled in the first nine months of the previous year.
PAL Express secured the second spot with a 35.3 per cent share or 59.133 million kg, a 159 per cent surge from the 22.834 million kg recorded last year.
Following closely was Philippine Airlines, holding an 11.7 per cent market share or 19.576 million kg, down 47.8 per cent from 37.522 million kg in the previous year.
AirAsia philippines came close in fourth spot with 19.064 million kg, or a share of 11.4 per cent - a 20.5 per cent increase from the 15.814 million last year.
Boutique airline AirSwift Transport secured the fifth position with a 1.6 per cent share, handling 2.733 million kg, up 120.9 per cent from 1.237 million kg.
Seair International, a leisure airline, ranked sixth with 1.697 million kg, a decline of 26 per cent from 2.287 million kg.
In seventh place was Cebgo with 1.223 million kg, marking a 39 per cent drop from the two million kg carried in the previous year.
Charter airline Island Aviation Corp secured the eight spot with 966,582 kg, reflecting a 49 per cent increase from 649,612 kg.
Finally, boutique charter airline Sunlight Express Airways, which commenced operations in 2020, transported 91,887 kg in the first nine months of the year. No comparative figure was available.
