OMAN's cargo volumes increased nine per cent in 2021 while container throughput rose two per cent, despite the Covid crisis and global supply chain constraints, reports London's S&P Global Platts.
In 2021, Omani ports handled 5.2 million TEU, a two per cent increase from 2020. Salalah port's reached 4.5 million TEU, while Sohar a throughput of 716,000 TEU.
Omani ports handled 77.1 million tonnes. Sohar port handled 58.65 million tonnes in 2021, up 8.7 per cent from a year earlier, while Salalah port saw a 10.2 per cent uptick in cargo volumes to 16.9 million tonnes during the same period.
Khasab port handled 91,344 tonnes of cargo, an 82.4 per cent jump from 2020, while Sultan Qaboos port cargo volumes rose 7.1 per cent to 799,687 tonnes from 2020.
