A CHASSIS Provision Charge is to be levied on cargo transported by road under NYK Line's import or export merchant haulage bills of lading when motor vehicle chassis from the South Atlantic Chassis Pool in the United States are used, starting September 2.
The levy will be made directly to motor carriers when chassis provided by NYK Line are used in cases which have not been arranged by the Japanese container shipping line (merchant haulage) at a daily rate of US$14.50 per chassis. The CPC does not apply when NYK Line arranges the motor transport (carrier haulage), reports the American Journal of Transportation (AJOT).
The levy will be charged on top of any other applicable terms, conditions and charges filed in the shipping line's governing tariffs, service contracts and the Uniform Intermodal Interchange and Facilities Access Agreement.
The South Atlantic Chassis Pool currently covers NYK Line nominated facilities in Atlanta and Savannah, Georgia; Jacksonville and Tampa, Florida; Birmingham, Alabama; Charleston, South Carolina; Charlotte and Wilmington, North Carolina.
