SLOVENIA's Port of koper on the north east shore of the Adriatic has set a new monthly record with 99,533 TEU handled in March 2022, surpassing the previous record of 97,101 TEU in March 2021.
The container terminal has set another record in March, handling more than 10,000 TEU on a single ship, reports London's Port Technology International.
The throughput figures for the first three months of 2022 show a steady growth across almost all terminals of Slovenia's big port.
The news comes at a time when the Koper Container Terminal - as well as the entire maritime industry and logistics worldwide - is facing disruption caused by the pandemic and war in the Ukraine.
The port has noted that yard occupancy within terminal has been impacted due to the occupation of back-end warehouses in the wider region, problems in the logistics chains, and a higher throughput.
The Port of Koper has responded to this situation by increasing the amount of warehouse space and additional human resources.
'As a port, we need to ensure not only our smooth operation, but also the operation of the entire transport route through Koper,' said Bostjan Napast, president of the management board of Luka Koper.
'We must continue to provide continuity, reliability and quality of service to our customers, who are one of the keys to our business success. I would therefore like to take this opportunity to thank in particular the company's employees, whose sometimes superhuman efforts keep the port running smoothly.'
Earlier this year, the Port of Koper connected to ports in the Far East through the MED service launched by Volta Shipping Services.
The introduction of this portal is the latest step in Cargolux's wide-ranging Sales digitalisation, reports London's Air Cargo News.
