JAXPORT has set a port record for container volumes in May, totalling 128,900 TEU, an increase of 37 per cent year on year, reports the American Journal of Transportation.
The port's previous record was 123,700 TEU in October 2019. Nearly 950,000 TEU have moved through the port to date fiscally 2021, up 15 per cent year to date.
The port's two largest trade containers include Puerto Rico and Asia, with Puerto Rico increasing 19 per cent year to date and Asia 18 per cent.
Meanwhile, the federal project to deepen the Jacksonville shipping channel to 47 feet from its current depth of 40 feet will be completed through Blount Island in 2022.
