THE Visayas Container Terminal (VCT) is expanding its local and international port connections to boost export opportunities for domestic producers and enhance the region's supply chain efficiency, reports the Philippines Star.
Managed by International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI), VCT has been added as a port of call on the restructured China-Philippines Express 7 (CPX7) service, operated by SITC Container Lines.
Since March, the CPX7 has made weekly stops in Iloilo via VCT, linking the province with significant trade routes including Shanghai, Xiamen, Cebu and Cagayan de Oro.
This connection offers Iloilo exporters direct access to key manufacturing hubs in China while speeding up product movement between regions, strengthening inter-island trade within the Philippines.
ictsi reports that CPX7 handles construction materials, consumer products, and general merchandise shipments.
VCT also sees potential export growth from Western Visayas' agriculture and fisheries sectors.
With CPX7's consistent weekly schedule, VCT said local shippers can plan and manage deliveries more efficiently.
The service deploys the 1,800-TEU SITC Fujian, which utilises VCT's mobile harbour cranes for container handling in Iloilo.
To support increased activity, ICTSI recently acquired new cranes and equipment for VCT, part of a broader investment to boost operational efficiency and vessel turnaround times.
ICTSI aims to position VCT as a key logistics hub in the region. Ongoing upgrades are designed to accommodate larger ships and stimulate more significant trade volumes for Western Visayas.
