HONG KONG's freightos Group has acquired North American rate management company 7LFreight that provides forwarders instant access to air cargo pricing across dozens of airlines via online booking platform, WebCargo reports.
'This acquisition is a major milestone in our digital air cargo development in North America,' said Camilo Garcia Cervera, global business vice president at WebCargo.
'The US market is enormous in exports but also in domestic business, and the 7LFreight acquisition brings in 1,200 forwarder branches that operate in the US,' he said.
The combined networks of Freightos and 7LFreight will offer forwarders faster, cheaper, and more predictable air cargo services, according to a Freightos statement on the acquisition. By the end of 2021, 30 per cent of global air cargo capacity was available through the WebCargo platform, 10 times that available online one year prior.
So far, 30 airlines are participants on the online platform, including IAG Cargo, the freight division of International Airlines Group that includes British Airways, Iberia, and Aer Lingus.
Peter Roberts, head of distribution at IAG Cargo, said the airline has seen increased adoption of digital tools by its forwarder customers throughout the Covid crisis, either booking directly
