ETIHAD Cargo has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Luxembourg's B Medical Systems to launch temperature-controlled facilities for life-saving drugs, vaccines and high-value pharmaceuticals, reports Mumbai's Stat Trade Times,
The deal was announced during the BIO International Convention held in San Diego earlier this month. etihad Cargo will become the first airline globally to develop and launch sustainable, temperature-controlled containers for pharmaceuticals and life sciences.
'The units will retain temperatures from -80 to 25 degrees Celsius for up to five days without requiring an external power source, with load capabilities,' said Etihad.
'Through the reduction in power needed to maintain the temperature for temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical shipments, these units will reduce carbon emissions,' the statement said.
Said Etihad vice president Martin Drew: 'While other traditional active container providers are offering containers fit for multi-modal transportation, Etihad Cargo is the first airline globally to collaborate with a partner in the development and launch of units specifically tailored to air transportation.'
