THE 6,800-TEU Hyundai Tokyo struck a pier while berthing at Kaohsiung Port, Taiwan, on arrival from Ningbo with full load, reported Rostock, Germany's FleetMon.
The ship was reportedly travelling at high speed under the command of an intoxicated pilot.The ship suffered cracks to her hull and there was also substantial damage to the berth.
According to port officials, the ship which was approaching at speed, was warned off by radio before the incident occurred.
