COSCO Shipping, the world's fourth-largest container line, has placed an order for twelve 14,000 TEU ships with a sister company in Jiangsu province, making it one of the busiest months ever for global containership orders, reports Singapore's Splash 247.
The state-run company is investing US$2.15 billion in these methanol dual-fuelled ships, which will be constructed at cosco Shipping Heavy Industry Yangzhou.
These vessels, designed with significant reefer slot capacity, will be deployed on Asia-Latin America trade routes.
As the world's largest shipowner, Cosco is firmly committed to methanol. Last year, it partnered with three other state-run companies - State Power Investment Corporation Limited (SPIC), Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG), and China Certification & Inspection Group (CCIC) - to establish a green methanol industrial chain.
This initiative will encompass the production, transportation, refuelling, and certification of green methanol for ships.
