CHINA Shipbuilding Industry Trading Co, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), and Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Co have delivered and named the new eco-friendly 5,500 TEU containership cma CGM Sahara to French shipping giant CMA CGM.
The vessel is the first in a series of ten new 5,500 TEU boxships which will be powered by VLSFO, reports Rotterdam's Offshore Energy.
The vessel is a new generation of green, environmentally friendly and energy-saving medium-sized ships independently developed and designed by the Shanghai Ship Design Institute, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation.
The boxship is equipped with the latest nitrogen reduction equipment, which is expected to fully meet the latest requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for nitrogen oxide emissions.
Recently, the French shipping major and Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding sealed a contract for a containership methanol dual-fuel conversion project. The deal is expected to cover 9,360 TEU vessels built around a decade ago, with the commencement of the contract set for the beginning of 2025.
