CMA CGM and Arkas Container Transport will launch an intra Mediterranean service with four 1,700-TEU vessels equipped with 200 reefer plugs each from January 29.

The sailing frequency is every 10 days for a 40-day rotation using three Arkas containerships and one from CMA CGM's Short Sea Line Med operation.

The port rotation is: Salerno, La Spezia, Genoa, Algeciras, Casablanca, Leixoes, Setubal, Marseille, Piraeus, Mersin, Beirut and Alexandria.

Izmir-based Arkas began operations as EMES Shipping and Transport SA in 1996 as the first container shipping line operating under the Turkish flag and changed its name to Arkas in 2010.

The Arkas container fleet totals 130,864 TEU and includes open top, high cube, flatrack, palletwide and reefers, all of which are used on liner services linking ports in the Mediterranean, West Africa and the Black Sea with a fleet of 41 vessels, of which 32 are owned by Arkas, reported Freightweek, London.
