CHONGQING is preparing to offer 10 new international air routes this year, after adding 14 overseas destinations last year, bringing the total number of international services to 82, reported Xinhua.
According to comments made by mayor Tang Liangzhi in a government work report delivered to the annual session of the municipal people's congress, Mr Tang said Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport handled 41.6 million passengers last year, three million of whom either headed to or arrived from overseas destinations.
Chongqing has direct flight routes to New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris, Rome, Moscow and Helsinki. Air cargo routes connect the city with Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Chicago and Sydney.
By 2020 the airport aims to bring the total number of air routes to 100 and accommodate 50 million passengers.
