CANADA's Edmonton International Airport, the nation's largest airport in terms of land mass, has undergone several major expansions since it opened in 1960 and last year expanded storage space to accommodate Cargojet and DHL.

Next in the development pipeline is a large, new cargo facility for Air Canada at the airport that will involve the construction of a perishable cargo facility, reports Varna's Wings Journal.

A new logistics centre for freight forwarding companies and customs brokers has now been set up at the airport and two massive new fuel tanks are being built there by Shell Aviation.

At least 10 air cargo carriers, including newbies Korean Air Cargo and Atlas Air are now operating there.

There will be a 'Dogtopia' for canines to open by the end of this year, featuring a dog day care centre and spa.

According to an article on the Aviation News Today website, EIA accommodated a record eight million passengers in 2018, with both domestic and US passenger numbers up, as was travel to sunny vacation destinations, thanks to low-cost carriers, WestJet, Swoop and Flair, expanding their services at the airport.
