The Bahamas Maritime Authority (BMA) is pleased to announce that it has been granted the status of Cooperating Non-Member (CNM) by the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC) for the year 2025. The WCPFC plays a key role in managing high seas fishing activities and conservation efforts in the region. This decision acknowledges The Bahamas' ongoing commitment to transparency, regulatory compliance, and enhanced control over fishing-related activities conducted by vessels in its fleet. In collaboration with the Bahamas Department of Marine Resources, the BMA ensures effective regulatory control, monitoring, and licensing for the global transportation of fisheries cargoes. With this CNM status, Bahamian reefer carriers are now authorized to carry cargoes originating from within the WCPFC's regulated area, broadening commercial opportunities for the Bahamian fleet.Captain Dwain Hutchinson, Managing Director and CEO of the BMA, commented, “We are committed to supporting the efforts of Regional Fisheries Management Organisations and are delighted to have achieved CNM status once again. It’s crucial for the entire industry that fishing remains sustainable, and we are eager to contribute to the success of marine conservation efforts.”
