New Wave of Investment in Seferihisar: EIA Process Initiated for Boat Manufacturing Facility
IZMIR – January 4, 2026 – Izmir has come to the forefront of Turkey's burgeoning maritime and boat building sector with a new investment. The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change has officially announced the initiation of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process for a modern boat manufacturing facility planned to be established in the Seferihisar district.
The facility, projected by Westhan Boat Manufacturing Industry and Trade Ltd. Co., aims to make a significant contribution to the region's boat building capacity. With an initial budget of approximately 1 million TL (993,900 TL), the facility will feature a production line specialized in the mid-segment.
The production targets have been outlined as follows:
- Annual total production of 25 boats. - Specialization in fiberglass/composite boats measuring 8.5, 10, and 12 meters.
One of the most notable aspects of the project is that the area designated for the facility is classified as "Field" in the land registry. The EIA process initiated by the ministry will examine the environmental impacts of the industrial use of the land and how it will affect the balance of settlement/agriculture in the region.
Due to the chemicals and composite materials used in boat construction, the project file has allocated significant space for waste management. According to the plan:
- A 50 square meter hazardous waste storage area will be established within the facility. - Solvent, fiber waste, and paint waste generated during production will be disposed of in accordance with "Zero Waste" protocols.
Seferihisar's recent rise in boutique boat manufacturing and yacht tourism paves the way for such investments. If the project is approved, it is expected to open a new employment avenue for the local population and add value to Izmir's maritime exports.
What Will Happen Next? Following the ministry's announcement, a "Public Participation Meeting" will be organized in the coming days. After gathering opinions from local residents and relevant NGOs, the technical review process will be completed, and a decision of "Positive EIA" or "Negative EIA" will be made for the project.
