Uzmar Shipbuilding Initiates EIA Process for 96.9 Million TL Shipyard Investment
KOCAELİ - Uzmar Shipbuilding Industry and Trade Inc., one of the significant companies in the Turkish shipbuilding sector, has initiated the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process for a new investment of approximately 96.9 million TL aimed at developing its shipyard site in the Kocaeli Free Zone.
According to the project file submitted to the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, new warehouses and social facilities will be constructed within the shipyard as part of the investment. The project, which includes a warehouse of approximately 1,768 square meters and a social facility building of 5,731 square meters, aims to strengthen the operational infrastructure of the shipyard.
The new social facilities will feature a cafeteria, changing rooms, shower areas, offices, and various common areas for employee use. The warehouse will be used for the storage of motors, pumps, furniture, spare parts, and various equipment utilized in shipbuilding activities. The project file also stated that no chemical substances would be stored in the warehouse.
In the EIA application prepared by the company, it was noted that the investment would not increase the current production capacity. Uzmar Shipbuilding will continue its operations by maintaining an annual capacity of constructing 35 new ships and providing maintenance and repair services for 24 ships.
With the completion of the investment, the aim is to modernize the shipyard's infrastructure and make logistics processes more efficient; however, the project does not foresee the creation of new employment. It was stated that activities would continue with the existing workforce.
Construction works are planned to commence after the completion of the EIA process for the project, which has an investment value of approximately 96 million 934 thousand TL.
