As the fishing season approaches, fishermen prioritize net maintenance for efficiency and cost savings.

Before the fishing season starts on September 1, fishermen are reviewing their boats and equipment one last time, with one of the most critical preparations being the maintenance and protection of fishing nets.

Veysel Feyzoğlu, Co-Founder of Bianca Boya, emphasizes the importance of proper protection practices for nets that are exposed to saltwater, intense sunlight, algae, and continuous use, stating that long-lasting nets reduce operational costs and support catch efficiency.

Before the fishing season, not only boats but also fishing nets undergo a comprehensive maintenance process. Bianca Boya's varieties contribute to sustainable fishing and economic use by increasing the durability of nets against the destructive effects of the sea through correct protection practices.

Nets' performance is determined before the season starts.

For fishermen who set sail on September 1 with the phrase 'Vira Bismillah,' the preparation process actually begins weeks in advance. In addition to engine maintenance, boat checks, and safety equipment, cleaning, repairing, and applying protective measures to fishing nets stand out as one of the most important stages of this process.

Nets that are exposed to sunlight, salty seawater, humidity, algae, and microorganisms for months experience wear over time. This situation not only shortens the lifespan of the nets but can also lead to increased maintenance costs during the season.

Protection against the harsh conditions of the sea is essential.

Among the biggest enemies of fishing nets are UV rays, salt, algae growth, and biological pollution caused by marine organisms. Especially in nets that remain submerged in water throughout the season, the formation of algae and barnacles increases the weight of the net and can negatively affect its movement in the water. Protective paint applications help reduce these effects, contributing to the longer usability of the nets. Regular maintenance decreases the frequency of net replacements and maintains operational efficiency throughout the season.

Maintenance should be viewed as an investment, not a cost.

Veysel Feyzoğlu, Co-Founder of Bianca Boya, made the following assessment regarding the importance of protective applications in fishing equipment: 'Fishing nets are exposed to very harsh environmental conditions throughout the season. Saltwater, intense sunlight, continuous use, and biological formations can negatively affect the performance of the nets over time. Proper maintenance practices carried out before the season not only extend the lifespan of the nets but also prevent potential maintenance and renewal costs that may arise during the season. Protective products are not an expense for fishermen; they represent a long-term investment that protects their equipment.'

Reducing algae formation while extending the lifespan of nets.

One of the most important functions of protective products used on fishing nets is to make it more difficult for marine organisms to cling to the net's surface, thereby reducing biological pollution. As a result, the nets remain lighter, and the need for cleaning and maintenance decreases.

    Sustainable fishing begins with equipment.

Sustainable fishing is directly related not only to fishing rules but also to the longevity of the equipment used. Nets that can be used for a longer time contribute to more efficient utilization of economic resources and the reduction of equipment waste. Therefore, maintenance practices carried out before the season are considered important steps that enhance the operational efficiency of fishermen while supporting the sustainable use of maritime equipment.
