Singapore's container volume increased by 3% in May, but bunker sales fell by 6.8%, despite a rise in vessel arrivals, according to Port News.

Singapore handled 3.94 million TEU in May, up three per cent year on year, while bunker sales dropped 6.8 per cent despite higher vessel arrivals, reports Saint Petersburg's Port News.

The Maritime and Port Authority stated that vessel arrivals by tonnage rose 1.1 per cent to 278.62 million GT, while ship calls increased by 3.4 per cent to 11,729.

However, cargo throughput fell by 4.8 per cent to 50.34 million tonnes, offsetting gains in container volumes.

Total bunker sales declined to 4.55 million tonnes, with conventional fuels accounting for 4.417 million tonnes. Biofuel sales reached 61,000 tonnes and LNG sales totaled 70,000 tonnes, for a combined total of 131,000 tonnes.

The bunker figures include delayed submissions declared by suppliers, the authority noted.
