DP World and Punta Cana Free Trade Zone unveil a new air cargo service to Europe, enhancing the Dominican Republic's logistics capabilities.
DP World and Punta Cana Free Trade Zone have started a new international air cargo service to Europe, strengthening the Dominican Republic's role as a logistics gateway, reported LA's Globe Newswire.
Operating twice weekly via the Punta Cana Air Cargo Hub, the service will move transit cargo from South America, Central America, and the Caribbean to Europe. Initial capacity is set at 120 tons per month.
The service targets high-value and time-sensitive goods, including perishables, pharmaceuticals, parcels, and dry cargo. Shipments from Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru will be consolidated in Punta Cana and connected to flights to Madrid, Frankfurt, and London.
The partners are also considering expansion into Canada as demand grows. The hub features 43,000 square feet of cold storage, streamlined transit processes, direct ramp access, and enhanced security.
By the end of 2025, the terminal is expected to handle 33,000 tons of cargo, a 15 percent increase from 2024. DP World Dominican Republic CEO Manuel Martinez stated that the expansion offers exporters faster and more reliable access to international markets.
The project builds on a 2023 alliance between DP World and Punta Cana Free Trade Zone to develop the hub as a world-class logistics platform. General Manager Ebell De Castro noted that it consolidates Punta Cana as a strategic hub for innovation and air logistics.
UniWorld Air Cargo CEO Romen Gonzalez remarked that the launch represents a strategic vision positioning Punta Cana as a gateway to Europe, creating opportunities for trade and regional development.
