Maersk is expanding its North American logistics footprint with a US$100 million commitment to a new fulfilment centre in Hopedale, Massachusetts. The 617,000-square-foot facility is set to open in late August 2026, boosting capacity for cargo owners in the US Northeast.
The site has been designed around the needs of a major e-commerce customer and will serve as a central hub in Maersk's contract logistics network. At peak, the centre can process up to 330,000 units daily, supported by advanced conveyor and sortation systems.
Dave Hune, Head of Maersk Contract Logistics North America, stated that the investment was driven by customer demand for resilient and scalable fulfilment solutions. He noted that the project reflects Maersk's commitment to building supply chains that withstand volatility and support growth.
Employment is a key element of the project, with close to 1,000 jobs spanning leadership, operations, and support functions. Hiring has already begun, marking a significant economic boost for the local community.
For shippers, the Hopedale centre represents more than just warehouse expansion. It strengthens Maersk's integrated logistics strategy, combining transport, warehousing, fulfilment, and distribution to reduce friction, improve reliability, and enhance visibility across supply chains.
The investment is part of a broader push to build end-to-end logistics capability in North America.
