Port of Santos reports record 452,000 TEU in February, up 4% YoY, with total cargo throughput rising despite challenges from heavy rainfall.
Brazil's Port of Santos handled 452,000 TEU in February, marking a record for the month and an increase of four percent from the previous year, as reported by Miami's Datamar News.
Total cargo throughput rose by 0.4 percent to 13.17 million tonnes, despite the challenges posed by heavy rainfall. Shipments of soybeans and meal experienced a decline of 12.6 percent; however, this was offset by a significant 46.8 percent increase in sugar exports.
Outbound shipments saw a slight decrease of 1.7 percent, totaling 9.33 million tonnes, while unloading operations increased by 5.9 percent, reaching 3.84 million tonnes.
Year-to-date container traffic also set a record, reaching 919,200 TEU, which represents a 2.6 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
Total cargo for the first two months of 2026 amounted to 25.9 million tonnes, compared to 24.8 million tonnes during the same timeframe last year. Exports rose by 4.5 percent to 18 million tonnes, while imports climbed by 5 percent to 7.9 million tonnes.
Liquid bulk throughput achieved a record of 3.2 million tonnes, reflecting an increase of 11.8 percent. Fertiliser shipments also stood out, rising by 4.8 percent to 1.46 million tonnes.
