BF Shipmanagement acquires 13,312-TEU Buenaventura Express from CCEC, marking a strategic expansion in its fleet and focus on larger vessels.

Germany's BF Shipmanagement has acquired the 2023-built, 13,312-TEU Buenaventura Express from Greek owner Capital Clean Energy Carriers (CCEC), reports London's Riviera Maritime Media.

The vessel was delivered on January 19, with CCEC recognizing a book gain of US$4.2 million. Cash proceeds of $84.4 million were allocated to debt repayment and corporate purposes.

This deal marks the second recent transaction between the two companies, following BF Shipmanagement's purchase of the 2022-built Manzanillo Express last October. In 2024, the German owner also acquired the Seattle Express and Fos Express from CCEC, retaining all original names.

The Buenaventura Express and Manzanillo Express are now the largest vessels in BF Shipmanagement's fleet, which otherwise consists of ships in the 4,300-6,500 TEU range and smaller feeder units. Founded in 1995 by Captain Bijan Foroohari, the company manages 23 vessels, including 18 containerships and five multipurpose units.

Following the sale, CCEC retains only one container vessel, the 2023-built Itajai Express, on long-term charter to Hapag-Lloyd until 2033, with options to extend to 2039. Since February 2024, CCEC has sold 14 containerships, generating gross proceeds of about $814 million.

CCEC stated that the divestments align with its strategy to focus on gas transport, including LNG and emerging energy-transition commodities. The company's fleet now includes 12 LNG carriers, one handy LCO2/multi-gas carrier, and one container ship, alongside a newbuilding program for nine LNG carriers, six dual-fuel medium gas carriers, and three handy LCO2/multi-gas carriers.
