Hai Phong's seaport system handled 182.4 million tons of cargo, marking a 12.11% increase in the first 10 months of 2026.
Hai Phong's seaport system handled 182.4 million tons of cargo in the first 10 months of 2026. That is a 12.11% increase over the same period last year. The volume represents 76.6% of the annual plan, which gives the city's port services a strong foundation as they enter the critical final stretch of the year.
The result reflects a clear recovery in import and export activity and in maritime trade across the northern gateway. Ship reception and cargo handling capacity at key ports have continued to improve. Port operators attribute these gains to optimized service processes and wider use of technology in warehouse and infrastructure management. A stable flow of goods through the northern sea gateway keeps port operations on schedule and strengthens Hai Phong's appeal to major international shipping routes.
Freight forwarders, shippers, and importers moving goods through northern Vietnam stand to benefit from these gains. Steadier throughput and faster vessel handling support more dependable planning across the supply chain.
Hai Phong Port Joint Stock Company remains a key operator in the regional port system. It continues to play a central role in sustaining operations and driving overall growth.
Mr. Le Hong Quan, General Director of Hai Phong Port Joint Stock Company, said the logistics market now demands ever-higher speed and service quality. To increase output and strengthen competitiveness, the company is focusing on three priorities: modernizing its management and operational systems, digitizing the cargo handling process through ePort and Smart Gate, and applying technology to manage berths, container yards, and equipment coordination.
These steps position the company to deliver faster, more accurate service to the logistics partners and cargo owners who rely on the port every day. At berths 3 and 4 in the Lach Huyen port area, HTIT Port is implementing a modern container handling management system. The system is being rolled out together with upgrades to infrastructure, equipment, processes, and human resources. The goal is a smart port model that meets international standards.
The project marks a deliberate move from incremental improvement toward a fully integrated, technology-led terminal operation. Tan Cang Hai Phong International Container Port (TC-HICT) manages and operates berths 1 and 2 in the Lach Huyen port area. The deep-water port can receive vessels of up to 14,000 TEUs. It serves intra-Asia and trans-Pacific routes, and its modern operating procedures significantly reduce time and costs while improving logistics efficiency.
On October 15, 2026, TC-HICT welcomed the ONE FANTASTIC, a vessel operated by Ocean Network Express (ONE). It is the largest container ship to dock at the port since TC-HICT began operations. The milestone further confirms the port as the first deep-water port in northern Vietnam with large-vessel capacity.
Specialized state management has advanced alongside port operators' work. Mr. Bui Nguyen Khoi, Director of the Hai Phong Maritime Port Authority, reported that 3,504 Vietnamese and foreign vessels entered and left the Hai Phong seaport area in September 2026 alone. Mr. Khoi said maritime traffic safety in the area remains stable. Authorities have focused on communicating laws and regulations and on raising compliance awareness among all parties involved.
He also highlighted close coordination between the Hai Phong Maritime Port Authority, specialized state management agencies, and related units. Combined with faster administrative procedure reform, this coordination has helped resolve difficulties for organizations, individuals, and businesses quickly. These efforts are building momentum for maritime development across the region.
