Maersk has received the 9,000-TEU Tangier Maersk, the first in a new series of six mid-size containerships, according to a Maersk press release.
The vessel was delivered at Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group's yard in Jingjiang, China, and named Tangier Maersk. This delivery marks the start of a fleet renewal program aimed at strengthening Maersk's competitiveness.
Each of the six ships is fitted with dual-fuel engines capable of operating on methanol. The Tangier Maersk will debut on the TP15 service, linking East Asia with the US Gulf Coast via the Panama Canal.
Yangzijiang Shipbuilding delivered the vessel three months ahead of schedule. Four more ships in the series are due later this year, with the final vessel scheduled for early 2027.
Anda Cristescu, Maersk's Head of Chartering and Newbuilding, stated that the new series will contribute to fleet renewal and long-term competitiveness.
