Maersk has agreed to sell Maersk Training and Maersk H2S Safety Services to Open Gate Capital, marking a strategic shift for the company.
On 7 August, Maersk announced that it had reached an agreement to sell Maersk Training and its subsidiary, Maersk H2S Safety Services, in their entirety to private equity firm Open Gate Capital.
The transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.
Maersk stated that the divestiture represents a significant step in the Group's ongoing strategic brand development while recognizing the strong market position that Maersk Training and Maersk H2S Safety Services have established over the course of their operations.
Katharina Poehlmann, Head of Strategy at Maersk, highlighted that Maersk Training has built a strong business with skilled employees, trusted customer relationships, and a solid foundation for future growth. She expressed confidence that the transaction would allow Maersk Training to continue its development under new ownership, with a focus on training, safety, and competency solutions. This, she noted, would create new opportunities for customers, employees, and the business.
For more than four decades, Maersk Training has delivered professional training, capability development, and safety services to clients across the energy, maritime, renewable energy, and logistics sectors, supporting them in managing operational risk and ensuring workforce safety.
David Skov, CEO of Maersk Training, described the agreement as a significant milestone, acknowledging the strong business that has been built over more than 40 years. While recognizing the pride many feel in Maersk's heritage, he emphasized the excitement about the new opportunities the next chapter could bring under ownership experienced in creating long-term value. Skov reaffirmed the company's continued commitment to serving customers, supporting employees, and delivering on its goals until the transaction is finalized.
